We had a great day volunteering Thursday October
18, 2007, for the Metropolitan Ministries, on
behalf of United Way. Thanks to everyone from Big
Sur who joined us. Also, a big thanks to everyone
who stayed behind at Big Sur so others could participate.
Our employees who came out are Scott Murdick, Systems
Engineer; Dave Kahlbaugh, Systems Engineer; Jim
Trice, Systems Engineer; Jeff Tessier, Business
Development Manager; and Sam and Lisa Sandusky,
owners of Big Sur.
United Way conducted volunteer efforts
all over the greater Hillsborough and Pinellas
County area on the same day as us. There are approximately
70 agencies in the greater Tampa Bay area that
receive assistance from United Way of Tampa Bay.
Our employees can be proud that they took part
in a major mobilization of effort that will help
thousands of families in our community.
We all met at the Metropolitan Ministries main
campus located at 2002 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa,
Florida 33602. It is a very large campus that
stretches the entire city block between N. Tampa
Street and N. Florida Avenue. We worked in the "Holiday
Tent" which is a massive red and white
tent that is set up for the months of November
and December to provide holiday entertainment
and a warm meal to an estimated 20,000 families
who have pre-registered to participate. It's
an impressive effort. We joined 15 employees
from Wacovia Bank who were also volunteering
for the day to assemble stages, kiosks, paint
walls, and any other needs they have in regard
to the Holiday Tent. We mostly painted 30 or
so, very large tables that will be used to distribute
vegetables, turkeys, and other meals during the
holidays. Be sure to drop by and visit anytime
now through the end of December to see this massive
and temporary complex that they put up once per
year.
Thanks again to ALL BIG SUR EMPLOYEES for "lending
a hand", and giving back to our community.
