Sam Sandusky | CEO
A graduate of Valdosta State University, Sandusky has worked in the technology industry for over 25 years, gaining industry experience through regional and global stalwarts that include The Waldec Group, CompuCom Systems and IBM. Sam plays an active role in the company through the development of his management team, overseeing operations, and generating new business through team sales efforts, and merger & acquisition. Under Sam’s leadership, Big Sur has won coveted industry awards that include Novell Partner of the Year for North America in 2003 & 2005, and Microsoft’s Rookie of the Year in 2007.
In 2016 Sandusky has led his team through a transformational process to better align his company’s vision and day to day operations in response to the complex demands of a growing Managed IT and Cloud Services Provider. The rapid increase of threats to data and network security, the mobilization of a diverse client base, and the exponential growth & demands of record revenue growth has required the Big Sur Executive Team to revamp internal operations to support a higher transaction volume. Big Sur Technologies makes the brand promise to its clients: “We Make IT Easy,” which requires our internal operations to run at its absolute most efficient level possible so Big Sur can deliver on this promise.
Sam meets monthly with leading CEO’s in the region to discuss ways to increase the quality, and continued improvement of the employee experience for organizations headquartered in the Tampa Bay area. It’s important to Sam that his employees are able to achieve an important work-life balance while striving to support their client’s expectations. Big Sur’s guiding principles support employees who are personally ambitious, but desire to bring their families along with them in the experience. Throughout all of the up’s and down’s of running his own business, it’s Sam’s personal walk of faith that continues to provide a solid foundation for he and his family to build their company upon. Personal involvement in his church provides Sam and his family a strong foundation for personal faith, deeper relationships in the community, and a weekly reminder that God can create lasting bonds in his family unachievable through his own efforts.
Ever the competitor, Sam saddled up next to Josiah Middaugh and “The Caveman” Conrad Stoltz in the summer of 2012 at the EXTERRA US National Championship in Utah. He and his wife Lisa have enjoyed competing in triathlon racing for over a decade, and both have qualified for multiple national and world championship races. In 2015 & 2016 Sam’s competitive passions have been dedicated to coaching his three youngest children in competitive soccer. He often volunteers to help build and sustain the local trail riding areas, and is an active member in his community supporting traffic safety, and future development that supports active families. If you can’t find Sam at work or on the soccer field, take a look in his backyard and you’ll probably find Sam & Lisa playing in the pool with one or all of their six children. They are blessed!
John Gessman | General Manager
Before joining Big Sur, John served our country for 10 years in the United States Navy as an Avionics Technician then worked for 10 years with the Walt Disney World company as a Project Manager.
John came to Big Sur as a part of a complex merger in 2009, by successfully transitioning over a large percentage of the prior company’s customer base to Big Sur he became a major factor in one of the best service revenue years for our company in 2010. John’s leadership was essential in bringing key Network Engineers over to Big Sur, and assimilating them along with these clients into the new company culture at Big Sur Technologies.
As General Manager, John’s ongoing leadership and experience has become a firm foundation for our Services Team. Under John’s leadership Service Revenues have sky rocketed in 2012, 2013, and into 2016, posting record results in Managed Services, Professional Services and Cloud Computing. In recent years, John has taken part in workshops at Big Sur that have transformed the way Big Sur delivers services to our clients, working hard to stay ahead of technical challenges such as Network and Data Security, Electronic Communications, HIPPA Guidelines for our Health Care clients, and PCI Financial Compliance for our clients across the board.
As a small business enthusiast John enjoys discovering and supporting locally owned restaurants. His favorite eatery in the bay area is Johnny’s Italian Restaurant in Clearwater, FL., other passions include wine tasting and swimming regularly. John is most happy at home enjoying a good glass of Pinot Noir and spending time with his two daughters, and grandson. Similar to most New York natives, John is a diehard Yankees fan, but we have seen him in a Rays’ jersey (TWICE!!).
Jennifer Parmley | Director of Finance
As the Director of Finance and Administration, Jennifer manages Big Sur’s back office and Employee Benefits. Her responsibilities include all aspects of Accounting, Payroll, Human Resources and Purchasing. Jennifer has been in the IT industry since 1996, gaining her experience at Dataflex Corporation and CompuCom Systems before joining the Big Sur team in 2002, over 14 years ago. A valuable member of the team, Jennifer was voted by her peers as Big Sur’s Most Valuable Team Member during our 2011 award ceremony.
Jennifer is digging into all of Big Sur’s Financial Operations, taking on the challenge to provide forward thinking in the financial analysis of client and vendor billing, receiving and delivery of an ever growing complexity around Managed IT Solutions. The Executive Team at Big Sur is driving it’s organization through a transformational process to reduce operational complexities, in order to reduce its delivery methods, so consultants and engineers at Big Sur can invest more time with our clients helping them to solve their technology needs. Jennifer’s extensive tenure in the IT business, coupled with a calm and steady approach in her responsibilities has resulted in a steady delivery of financial and operations results.
A self-proclaimed “Geek Chic,” Jennifer enjoys scrapbooking about her 4 children, reading the latest mystery, thriller or fantasy series and exploring the latest additions to local theme parks. Jennifer has served with the local PTA, and joined a “krewe” to take part in Gasparilla.
Bryan Schneider | Technical Services Manager
Bryan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Big Sur Technologies. He joined Big Sur in years past to strengthen our Sr. Systems Engineers with the complex delivery of high level solutions. He has brought a wealth of knowledge to Big Sur in the areas of systems design, network deployment, network security, virtualization, cloud provider delivery methods, and much more.
One of Big Sur’s brand promises is to “Make IT Easy” for our customers. In an ever growing world of complexities, and cyber-criminal behavior, Bryan leads our team in understanding network and data security, assists with aligning technical training and the selection of best of breed partners who will support our clients along with us. Bryan’s brisk and responsive temperament allows him to be an ideal leader when responding to client escalation of important service challenges. Big Sur looks to Bryan to provide a steady hand to growing Help Desk and Network Support Engineers beneath him. There are many days when Bryan is challenged to extend his day into the evening to support the needs of a growing organization, and demanding end-users.
It’s a lot for anyone to take on, and his ability to work in a dynamic environment is an elixir for our success.
Christopher Storey | Sales Manager / Product Manager
Before joining Big Sur, Chris accumulated an abundance of sales and service experience across multiple industries between Tampa and Virginia Beach, VA, his hometown. Born in a beach town, Chris embodies the culture we strive to maintain here at Big Sur Technologies. As an avid outdoorsmen and marathon runner with a passion for giving back, Chris provides a fast-paced, sincere approach to business development with a constant focus on the long term. Chris is often the face of Big Sur and as such, excels at instilling confidence that even the most complicated IT issue is easily solved by our experienced team. Integrity is his defining quality and his unwavering goal is to build relationships for life.
